This We'll Defend (Introduction)

"THIS WE'LL DEFEND!"

This is the official motto of the United States Army.

The following text paragraph is taken directly from The US Army Drill Sergeant Academy.

"It refers to the army's primary purpose of defending the country as one. It dates back to before the American Revolutionary War. When the War Office was created in 1776 to manage the Continental Army, it adopted "This We'll Defend" as its official motto. Each word is meaningful. "This" refers to the United States, the U. S. Constitution and liberty. "We'll" references the army's collective team efforts, and "Defend" refers to the primary function of the army as a defender of the nation, not an aggressor against others."

It goes without saying, in my strong academic opinion based on mountains of evidence, that the last five words of that paragraph can now be removed.

The US Army is the oldest of the US military branches. You may be shocked to learn that the Army National Guard, which is the oldest military force in the United States, finds its origins in the Massachusetts Bay Colony in 1636. Sixteen thirty-six!

I am no longer a soldier. I am not serving in the army. I served three enlistments, one in each branch of the US Army, and received three honorable discharges. I received my last discharge on 31 July 2001. I was officially free. I was so excited I ran up and down my block telling my neighbors. I would go to China, to study for a year, less than two weeks later. The military was in my rear view mirror.

I am here now to defend history. I am also here to defend the US Constitution, which has been under assault for a long time, but more so in these past two decades. That is the point of this website. There will be personal posts and anecdotes that have nothing to do with history, other than my own, or in my personal circle, and not everything will be dark and heavy. However, in this divisive time, I have found social media to have become too toxic. I'll still use it daily, but not to argue with people who have given up on real thought, trying to learn truths, and logic. Ideology is not action.

For me, as an American, I often sum up American History in just two words. "Bloody" and "Ugly". I am here to present that history which is all too often sugar coated so it's easy to digest for the partisan masses in the US.

If I can not validate something I will not post it as a fact. Often times, our "facts" are from others and we have to vet and validate the best we can. I will not post someone else's work as my own. All credits will be given for quotes, sources and the like. Other than that it is my work. My efforts. My energies. My nightmares.
